They must taste the wine

As I sat on a chair facing the television
My heart was pounding with uncertainty
I just hoped we weren't going to hear some awful news
as everyone was eager to know the update.

Just as my guess could be right sometimes
The spokesman interrupted the silence:
'My people, we want to relate to you,
something that could make you all feel glad...'

From their looks and actions
Something strange had gone wrong
I saw them whispering to each other
They were like actors arranging a movie.

When we tried to near them for details,
they would all shut up, smile and look the other way
Because they silenced us, they are in charge
Every decision, every agreement has to be signed by them. Leadership belongs to them.

I couldn't think of anything else. It was a sign of bad omen
Maybe one of them had gotten into trouble
Most likely it was the same individual everyone knew
I looked over at their faces to see if they looked guilty, but the answer was blowing in the air.

People know what they know, but the truth was kept a secret
Even when the truth was evident to everyone,
they kept deceiving themselves, not us
Truth is always bitter when it is told by a wrong person.

The table is turning round and round
The hand of the clock is ticking clockwise and anticlockwise
The wind, the sun, the rain and thunder are in protest
The blood of the innocent has come to fight back.

Now it has happened, everyone is feeling the pressure
The music is playing to the hearing of all
If you notice anyone without a drink, serve him
They must drink to satisfaction.

An unwanted guest is in town; it is here to vindicate
Coronavirus has raised an eyebrow to those that caused us pains
It entered through the other room
There is a fire! Everyone is on the run

The virus is not only for poor masses
The rich have their share of the international cake
The wine has been served free of charge
All of them must taste the wine.

They campaigned for change, the unwanted guest gave them the change they prayed for
They rang the election results and we said nothing
They refused to equip our hospitals to help save lives
They used our resources for their comfort.

They left everyone in the dark, without improved social amenities
They escaped and left us to our fate
Unfortunately, coronavirus has refused to be silent
It has rushed them like flies chasing fresh palm wine.

I imagined the hand of God refining the earth.
If you are a philanthropist, you will receive  goodness in return
If you do bad, then your fate will speak for you
Let everyone face reality with a clear mind.

The coronavirus was dropped like gas in the air
They went and breathed the virus; it affected them
But there is no sufficient equipment to attain to them
They have been found guilty of thousands of injustice.

They were best at their jobs of deceit
They left employed workers for months without pay
They got special holidays, extra money, food and medical care
They even got promoted to higher ranks for their work.

Never misuse any opportunity that comes your way.
It may appear irrelevant, but it will never come back to you
Turn to God with a repentant heart
Each new day offers you an opportunity to change.
